Just one day before the Movement Control Order took place, eight colleagues from Tesco Tanjung Pinang, Extra Seberang Jaya, Bertam Perdana and Bagan Ajam planted fruits and vegetables on a 6,800 square meter of land around an old folk's home, Persatuan Syukur Peyayang Pulau Pinang (Syukur Penyayang).
Since then, the residents have been able to harvest brinjal, okra, Brazilian spinach, and more. The edible garden is also a win-win for all as the senior residents get the chance to not only spend their time growing their food but to get also exercise through gardening.
Syukur Penyayang is one of Tesco’s frequent beneficiaries, as the home largely relies on the public's funding to remain operational. If you are keen to help them by either donations or volunteering please contact their hotline at +6012 494 9718.
